Forget gold, this truffle is worth a lot more. A wealthy casino owner from Macau has paid a record price for…. a mushroom, that’s right the monsterous fungi, praised by Italians and others for it’s unique odor and taste in sauces was auctioned off on Saturday to the highest bidder.

The winner was Billionaire Stanley Ho, a casino mogul from Macau. No word yet on what he plans to do with his record setting white truffle.

White truffles grow underground and are usually sniffed out with the help of a trained dog.

The guiness book of world records lists the biggest white truffle at 2.86 pounds.
