In Gulfport, Florida a fourteen year-old boy dialed a wrong number and was eventually arrested for it. Since the boy is a minor his name is not being released to the public. It appears to police investigators that the boy was dialing random numbers in the effort to solicit customers to sell marijuana and other drugs. The boy dialed the number of Matt Parks, an undercover detective and offered to sell drugs to Parks. The two arranged to meet at a school parking lot for the exchange.

The boy showed up with another person, a driver, and the two were then arrested. The two youths were charged with possession of 1 ounce of marijuana, and intent to distribute within 1000 feet of a school.

What I don’t understand is why the kid just didn’t go out clubbing to sell his herb. Maybe the town where the kid lives is known for lots of pot-heads. Another thing is if the officer is the one who suggested the meeting place be at the school, which carries a much higher felony charge; it may be considered entrapment so that the police department could charge an additional offense of “within 1000 feet of a school.”
